Grand Tour Marble Statue of Laocoön and His Sons

Rare good quality late 19th century Grand Tour white marble reduction of one of the most famous statues of antiquity, the Laocoön and his Sons. The original was excavated in Rome in 1506 and placed on public display in the Octagonal Court in the Vatican in Rome where it can be seen to this day. Displayed on an associated alabaster plinth of similar date with a vignette of a Greek helmet, shields and weapons. Losses to sons' hands. Circa 1870.
