CA1111 Early 19th Century Napoleon Thermometer

A fine early 19th Century gilt bronze Réaumur column thermometer surmounted by a super quality statue of Napoleon in uniform with great coat and sword. Mounted on a white marble square base. The Réaumur scale was named after Rene-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur who created it in 1731. Widely used in France during the 18th and early 19th Century it was eventually superceded by more accurate thermometers but continued to be widely used in brewing and cheese production.
