French Empire 'Garde à Vous' cupid clock by Hemon Ledure

A fine quality early 19th century French Empire period patinated and gilt bronze ormolu mantel clock. Surmounted by a superbly cast 'Garde à Vous' figure of cupid warning of the dangers we run, when we are young and in love. In his hand he holds aloft a rose - a symbol of love. The eight day silk suspension movement also has a gilt bronze rose bezel. Dial signed 'Ledure Bronzier à Paris' and 'Hemon Hr Horloger'. The bronzier Ledure is recorded as working in Paris on the Rue Neuve des Petits Champs in 1812 and the Rue Vivienne in 1820 and Claude Hemon on the Rue St-Martin between 1812-20. France, circa 1815.
