CA1174 French Empire Erigone Seduced by Dionysus Mantel Clock

Fine example of an early 19th Century French Empire gilt and patinated bronze mantel clock illustrating Ovids story of Erigone seduced by Dionysus disguised as a bunch of grapes. Combining classical with contemporary taste it depicts a scantily clad Erigone lying on a Empire style chaise longue, admiring the grapes. Patinated bronze base with wine barrels for feet. Eight day silk suspension movement, gilt bronze face signed ‘à Paris’. Circa 1810.
