CA1174 French Empire 'A la Bacchante Allongée' Mantel Clock
Fine example of an early 19th Century French Empire gilt and pantinated bronze ‘A la Bacchante Allongée’ mantel clock. Combining classical with contemporary taste it depicts a scantily clad bacchante lying on a Empire style chaise longue, eating grapes on a base of patinated bronze with wine barrels for feet. Eight day silk suspension movement, gilt bronze face signed ‘à Paris’. Circa 1810.
