Rare Late 18th century Directoire Tortoise Paperweight

Interesting late 18th / early 19th century French Directoire period ormolu gilt bronze paperweight in the form of a tortoise. This tortoise is identical to the versions seen on highly prized 'Au Bon Sauvage' Africa mantel clocks of the period and may have originated from one. Presented on a Marmo Tripontico Rosa block base. French, circa 1800.
