Pair of Patinated Bronze Figures of Lorenzo and Giuliano de’Medici

Late 19th century Continental pair of patinated cabinet bronzes of the seated figures of the brothers Lorenzo de' Medici, Duke of Urbino and Giuliano de’ Medici, Duke of Nemours after the original marble statues carved by Michelangelo in the The Sagrestia Nuova in San Lorenzo, Florence. Lorenzo is portrayed with his deep in thought, refelecting his nickname Il Pensieroso (The Thoughtful One). Giuliano is portrayed as vigilant - dressed as an ancient Roman general with a baton of command. Both sit on Verde Antico marble block bases with gilt bronze toupee feet. Italian, circa 1860.
