Fine Grand Tour bronze of the Pancrastinae

Good quality late 19th century Grand Tour patinated cabinet bronze of the Pancrastinae or Wrestlers after the 1st century AD Roman copy in the Medici collection in the Tribuna of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, itself a copy of the lost Greek original from the 3rd century BC. Beautifully modelled with a real sense of movement and power the two young men, crossed bodied, engaged in the pankration an ancient type of wrestling. Well cast and chased presented on a green marble kidney shaped base. Italian, circa 1870.
