CA0248 French Louis XVI / Directoire clock by Sacre

Elegant late 18th century French Louis XVI/Directoire period black and white marble urn shaped mantel clock by the Parisian clockmakers Sacré and signed 'J. A. Sacré a Paris' possibly for Joseph Antoine Sacre. White marble ball finial on a white marble architectual style base. Belgium Black marble body housing the silk suspension single train movement with an additional complication for the days of the month. Tapered lobbed underside sitting on a socle base. Black marble base sitting on 4 machine turned bun feet. Fine ormolu bezel and very elegant late 18th century hands. White enamel dial. Tardy cites various addresses for the firm at rue du Martrois from 1792 to 1825, rue de Harlay (1806), rue Saint-Nicaise (1815-17) and rue Saint-Honoré (1820). France, Paris circa 1790.
