Fascinating and enigmatic pair of late 18th century French patinated bronze sculptures representing the mythological gods Mars, god of war, and Minerva, the warrior goddess. Distinct similarities to figures of Mars and Minerva on clocks from the Louis XVI period. Presented on early 19th century Sienna marble block bases. Rare well cast expressive examples. France, circa 1790.
