Small Grand Tour Discobolus on a siena marble block base

A small late 19th century Grand Tour patinated cabinet bronze of the 'Myron Discobolus' after the antique on a Siena marble base. The original marble version of this important statue was discovered at Hadrian's Villa and later acquired by the Vatican Museum in Rome. It is now displayed in the Sala della Biga. A similar model, the 'Townley Discobolus' can be seen in the British Museum. Italy, circa 1890.
