CA0151 Fine French Empire portico mantel clock by Sacré
A very attractive early 19th century French Empire period gilt bronze ormolu portico mantel clock by the Parisian clockmakers Sacré and signed 'Sacré a Paris'. Drum style housing for the two train movement decorated with classical ormolu mounts depicting an eagle, garlands and mythical winged creatures sit between elegant twin classical columns. Oval platform base with four toupee feet. Fine ormolu bezel and Breguet moon hands. Tardy cites various addresses for the firm at rue du Martrois (1792 to 1825), rue de Harlay (1806), rue Saint-Nicaise (1815-17) and rue Saint-Honoré (1820). France, Paris, circa 1812.
