CA0153 Attractive French Empire Syrinx and Pan mantel clock
Rare attractive early 19th century French Empire gilt bronze figural mantel clock surmounted by a figure of the Arcadian nymph Syrinx. Fine relief panel to the front depicting Syrinx, famous for her chastity, pursued by Pan, fleeing into the river where she metamorphosed into a reed from which Pan then made his mythical panpipes. Nicely cast and chased mounts. Unsigned white enamel face, eight day silk suspension movement. France, circa 1820.
