CA1021 Important Pair of French Empire Retour d'Egypte Candlesticks

A very fine pair of beautiful early 19th Century French Empire period 'Retour d'Egypte' ormolu gilt bronze candlesticks. Square bases decorated with mythical winged creatures. Tapered stems with caduceus on three sides and small stars on the remaining (back) side. Surmounted by exquisite addorsed female Egyptian busts with classical shallow urn drip pans and fluted candle cups very much in the manner of Glaude Galle. France, circa 1805.
