CA0916 Grand Tour Discobolus on Rosso Levanto marble base

A rich dark patinated late 19th Century Grand Tour Neapolitan cabinet bronze of the 'Myron Discobolus', after the antique, mounted on a circular Marmo Rosso Levanto and black marble base. The original marble version of this important statue was discovered at Hadrian's Villa and later acquired by the Vatican Museum in Rome. It is now displayed in the Sala della Biga. A similar model, the 'Townley Discobolus' can be seen in the British Museum. Italy, circa 1890.
