CA0858 French Empire Classical Term Fauteuil

Early 19th Century, single, French Empire period classical carved Greco Roman female term support mahogany fauteuil, after the antique. These Roman style heads were designed to sit in classically inspired rooms and reflect Greek and Roman influences. Often referred to as 'Retour d'Egypte' they were a more feminine counterpoint to the more masculine Egyptian inspired furniture. Seat upholstered in ivory fabric with gold stars. French, circa 1810.
