CA0786 French Empire Neoclassical Caryatid Gilt Bronze Candlesticks

A very attractive pair of 19th Century French Empire classical design caryatid gilt bronze candlesticks. Circular bases decorated with classic Empire style decoration, three footed base with a tapered stem surmounted by three classical female heads with foliate wreath headdresses. Nicely designed urn style candle cups decorated with a classical greek key design. By 1810 candlesticks of this style had become very fashionable throughout France enhanced by publications of similar designs in catalogues of Parisian designers and copied throughout the 19th Century.
