Grand Tour Neapolitan Bronze of Antinous

Rare and fine quality late 19th Century Neapolitan Grand Tour patinated bronze reduction of the Antinous Farnese, after the antique. Good, large version with a rich dark patination. Regarded as the most beautiful man of his age Antinous was the favourite and lover of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The original, once displayed at the entrance to the Carracci Gallery in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome is now on display in the Naples National Archaeological Museum. Impressive example of a rare bronze. Italian, circa 1880.
