CA0578 Large French 19th century neoclassical bronze figural tazza

Large size 19th century French patinated bronze figural tazza based on Polykleitos' Doryphorus statue surmounted by a finely cast bowl decorated with trailing vines on the outer edge and inside a central relief of the head of Medusa based on the famous Farnese Agate Cup in the Archaeological Museum in Naples. Sitting on a substantial block of Rouge Giotte marble. Stamped AD for the Delafontaine bronze foundry in Paris founded in the late 18th century by Jean-Baptiste-Maximilien Delafontaine. French, Napoleon III period, circa 1870.
