CA0606 Rare Early 19thC Italian adapted Lucerna or Library Lamp
Rare early 19th century Grand Tour bronze patinated figural Italian bronze adapted lucerna or library oil lamp in the form of Antinous Osiris, the favourite and lover of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, in the guise of a pharaoh. Black patination, pitted in places with later restoration. At some point, probably in the early 20th century, it has been adapted to be used as a cigar lighter. The figure stands on an oval white marble base on a Sierna marble block base. Italy, probably Rome, circa 1810.
