CA0572 French Ecole Polytechnique School Army Belt Buckle

Attractive example of a 19th century French Napoleon III/ rd Republic period gilt bronze ormolu army sword belt buckle with a snake clasp from the famous French Ecole Polytechnique that was established in 1794. Consisting of two circular classical bronze bosettes depicting the finely cast and chased emblem consisting of two crossed cannons' a cuirass and helmet, an anchor and victors laurel. Each measuring about 41mm in diameter. Remains of the leather backings. France, circa 1890.
