CA0558 Quirky Grand Tour oil lamp after the antique
A quirky and delightful 19th century Neapolitan Grand Tour patinated bronze oil lamp, after, or inspired, by the antique Roman examples of Ancient Rome. This version depicts a crane with a snake in its beak from which hangs an oil lamp. The crane is balancing on a tree which in turn sits on a platform held aloft by three sphinxes which sit on zoomorphic legs and hoof feet with stylised acanthus leaf designs. Naples, Italy circa 1880.
