Rare paperweight by Thomas Weeks

Fine quality, late 18th/early 19th century George III or English Regency period, classically inspired paperweight attributed to the eminent clock maker Thomas Weeks (1743 -1834) of Tichborne Street, London. Gilt bronze ormolu winged cupid holding a circular tablet inscribed 'Omnia Vincit Amor', Love Conquers All, astride a classically draped patinated bronze lion on a canted gilt bronze beaded white marble base. Famous for its objet d'art, clocks and automatons, Thomas Weeks shop come museum at 3/4 Tichborne Street was the pinacle of fine English craftsmanship, it opened in 1803 and closed on his death in 1834.
