CA0428 Large late 19th century pair of Townley Vases

A good quality pair of large late 19th century bronze or bronzed metal Townley Vases after the antique Roman marble original discovered in 1773 by Gavin Hamilton, the Scottish antiquarian, whilst excavating a Roman Villa at Monte Cagnolosoutheast of Rome and now on permanet display in the British Museum in London. Beautiful classical vase of krater form with a Bacchanalian procession bas-relief figural frieze and elaborate twin scrolling volute handles. Raised on black slate square block plinths etched in gold with typical late 19th century period designs. French, circa 1880.
